They Sit and Eat and Sit

Doors open to present a crowd
Active and engaged
And content

Shiny belt buckles adorn the waiters
The smile they carry matches the glint

People sit
They wash the day from stressed minds
And choose a meal
Instead of a deal
An outfit or solution
Instead of direction
They rent a small patch of respite
A seat of stasis
A place to be and not do

They eat
They talk

They lean back upon conclusion
They pat bellies and breath deep
Finally and completely satiated

Some
In these few minutes
Live for themselves

Others rush
Fumble for cards
Or look furtively to somewhere
Trying to place the feeling
For the openness of that moment is frightening
In its possibility
Or ambiguity

But for some it is much nicer
To feel a little bit lost in a meal
And they stay
And sit
And they got what they paid for
