Neptune’s Spear

Neptune’s Spear

That day he stepped up to the ocean
The wind did howl from side to side
2 minutes before noon
Winter would be coming soon
That jagged sun just rolled across the sky

He thought of everyone
He’s known in this place
He walks into the sun
The shadow hides his face

And that’s his saving grace

Recites a solemn prayer to history
Silence serves as the reply
The footprints that he made
Would soon return from whence they came
That jagged sun still limped across the sky

Weary leg moved to the water
The furrowed brow betrayed the eye
The salt crept through his bones
His skin baptized by ancient stones
And all the while that jagged sun floats by

One last breath was drawn
One last chance to turn around

One last look before
His feet no longer touched the ground

And all the while that jagged sun floats by…
