I Was Just A Boy When I Left Town

I was just a boy when I left home
Laced up my walking shoes
Then I headed off to roam
Found a town down ’bout a mile or two
But that wind blew west and I just followed through

I was just a boy when I left town
Headed to the river
Then I followed it down
Now I’ve seen oceans blue and I’ve picked a fight or two
But I thought I’d seen it all ’till I saw you.

I met a man who claimed to swallow stars
Another claimed his Pappy was an alien from Mars
Now I’ve been to the top and back again
But I thought I’d seen it all ’till you walked in

‘Till you walked in
With that dress just hanging on
And you picked out a song
For me to play
And how I tried,
But all other sights escaped my eyes
Completely taken by surprise
What should I do?

And then I knew…
That I’d thought I’d seen it all ‘till I saw you

You sat down and enquired my address
I said: “Nothing concrete yet, just walking from the west”
You asked if I found my place how would I know?
I said: “Keep sitting there and I will never go”

But then you leant your head in close to mine
And whispered several words that seemed to echo through time
You said:
I’m just a girl traveling east to west
And when I’ve seen it all is when I’ll rest”

And she walked out
With that dress just hanging on
No sooner come then she was gone
Never to return
And how I tried
To forget it there and then
But it keeps running round my head
And starts to burn

And now I know its all the same….

…I’ll see it all ‘till I see her again
